The Decemberists at the 400 Bar
June 4, 2004
I love the feeling of getting goosebumps during a show, which usually happens during those shows where you just feel you are seeing something special. That was the case last night as I never wanted the show to end, and was amazed at the talent on the stage. There were six people on the little stage at the 400 Bar, and each member played at least two, and up to 6 instruments, including a upright bass, accordion, glockenspiel, an oberheim, and mutiple guitars.
They have two albums so far, Castaways and Cutouts, and Her Majesty The Decemberists. They seemed to play a nice mixture from those and a few songs I hadn’t heard before, which must either be on the new EP, or new songs for hopefully, a new CD.
I love this band so much, so while it’s great to see them fill the 400 Bar, there is no reason why they can’t play First Ave, like the Shins are doing in a couple of weeks. The great thing about last night though, is that I was able to stand a few feet from the stage, which I rarely do when I go to a show alone, but I didn’t want to miss anything from the show, and I wanted to take some pictures. I was just so thrilled to finally see them live, after missing their last show at the Triple Rock.

looks like Sharyn from Mass Distraction was there and took a few pictures. You can’t see me, but I was right against that red wall.

Funny, I can think of plenty of tags for the people at Sedaris, but “npr nerds” is not among them.

Really? I bet at least 80% of the people there listen to it.
