Nada Surf at the Nomad

January 8, 2008

Thanks to Reveille Magazine, last night Nada Surf came to town for a special acoustic performance at the Nomad World Pub. They are releasing a new album next month, so they played a few from that including the first track, called “See These Bones”, that really seemed to have people impressed. Can’t wait to hear the rest of it. They also played “Blizzard of 77″, “Always Love”, and a beautiful rendition of “Meow Meow Lullaby”!! I was really hoping they would come out for an encore, but wasn’t all that surprised when they didn’t.

It was a short set, only 45 minutes or so, but being in a bar like the Nomad was a treat. And since it was a “secret” event, the crowd was smaller and all really cool. We didn’t notice any of the jerks that are normally at shows at First Ave. The show started at 7:00, so it was also great to be home from a show at 10:30. I really wish more places did this on Monday nights.

Nada Surf opened the show, followed by Eric Lovold from The Alarmists, and also The Glad Version. I was really impressed with both and look forward to seeing them again, as I think those two are possibly two of the best local acts around these days.
